11th Intercollegiate Finance Competition

THE Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (Finex), through its Junior Finex Committee, will hold its annual Inter-Collegiate Finance Competition (ICFC) on its 11th year, with eliminations on September 18 and the finals on October 19 at the auditorium of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, (BSP) with the presence of BSP Governor Amando Tetangco Jr.
The competition aims to enhance the quality of finance education in the country, and at the same time expose the participants to world-class finance education standards.

The questions cover topics ranging from corporate finance to economics based on the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level 1 body of knowledge.

In last year’s ICFC, 84 colleges and universities from all over the country participated in the eliminations round, 20 of which advanced to the finals.

Four foreign international schools joined the finals round of the competition—Singapore Management University, National University of Singapore, Chulalongkorn University of Thailand and Assumption University of Thailand.
University of the Philippines Diliman emerged as the champion, followed by Ateneo de Manila University (first runner-up), De La Salle University Manila (second runner-up), Assumption University of Thailand (third runner-up), National University of Singapore (fourth runner-up), and University of the Philippines Iloilo (fifth runner-up).

The top three schools, University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University, exhibited honor in bagging the top three places versus the other top-ranking Asian universities.

For the young Filipino prides in finance, Citi provided a cash prize for the top three winning teams: P100,000 for the champion, P60,000 for the first-runner-up and P40,000 for the second-runner-up teams.
More than that, Citi held its 6th Citi Junior Bankers’ Congress, a three-day intensive practical banking course patterned along the lines of the University Banking Course, in the pursuit to enhance the Philippine education in finance.
This year the eliminations round will be held at five different areas in the country, namely, University of Makati for NCR; University of the Cordilleras for Northern Luzon; University of the Visayas for Eastern and Central Visayas; University of St. La Salle for Western Visayas; and Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan for Mindanao.
Over 90 schools will be participating for this year’s ICFC, including four foreign schools—Chulalongkorn University, Assumption University of Thailand, National University of Singapore and University of Hong Kong.
The sponsors of the prestigious finance competition for this year are Citi and Vista Land as Diamond sponsors; Educalc.net, the master distributor of HP calculators in Southeast Asia, as major sponsor; and other sponsors, namely, Asian Institute of Management, CFA Philippines, the BSP, PWC-Isla Lipana, Malayan Insurance Co., Pan Pacific Manila, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.
